Wanted

saw it last night and let me tell you its a amazing movie.

Novitec Rosso Scuderia

The Ferrari F430 Scuderia is one car most people would have no problem in adding to my fantasy garage, the 510 horsepower supercar capable of doing 320km/h is more than sufficient to to satisfy most of our lusts. But should you wish for something a little extra why not enlist the help of specialist Ferrrari tuner Novitec Rosso who have just released their own tuning package boosting the engine up to a monstrous 717 horsepower bringing the top speed up to 348km/h and the 0-62mph time down to just 3.5 seconds.
The engine gets new belt driven twin-superchargers with a limited boost pressure of 0.48 bar, the heat insulated intake manifold have been redesigned to provide the engine with pre-compressed air and the it also gets two high performance air filters and eight larger injectors. The extra heat generated from the additional power is cooled with a higher capacity coolant system.
The subtle interior modifications include a new flat bottomed sports steering wheel featuring leather and carbon fibre materials as well as carbon-fibre shift paddles.

The ZR1 hits the ring...

Gauntlet thrown: Corvette ZR1 laps the 'Ring in 7:26.4

Tadge J. Juechter, Corvette's chief engineer, announced this morning that Jim Mero, GM's development engineer, drove the ZR1 around the Nurburgring in 7:26.4. According to the GMNext blog, the run took place earlier this morning and that conditions were good on the track, with the exception of a strong headwind down the main straight. Mero mentioned that he felt there were a few places where he could have gone faster, although no details were provided about why and where.Juechter makes it clear that the ZR1 that lapped the 'Ring was instock trim, with the exception of safety and communications equipment. As such, the ZR1 was wearing the same Michelin Pilot Sport 2s found on the production model, the chassis alignment and vehicle height were set to factory specs and the unmodified engine was running on pump gas.The lap began with a rolling start – which falls in line with current industry practices – and the time was confirmed both through an electronic timing system and two hand-held stopwatches. The ZR1 team will be posting a video of their run when they return from Germany and we'll be keeping our eye out for it when it's online the week of July 7th.

And so it begins

Ferrari has been very stingy when it comes to information on the new California coupe-convertible, leaving it to German Autobild to be the first to release new images other than the few studio shots. But at least there is now photographic proof that production of the new front-engined Ferrari has started.
Manufacturing is taking place at Ferrari's brand new production line, the latest phase in Ferrari's Formula Uomo program which started in 1997 to improve production, safety and employee happiness. “Excellence is the driving force behind all of Ferrari’s activities,” says President Luca di Montezemolo. “We intend to create a working environment unlike any other anywhere in the world.” In 2007 the Maranello factory took home the European 'Best place to work' award.
Finalizing the Formula Uomo is the new car assembly lines and a brand new restaurant. “With the addition of these two new buildings,” stressed the Ferrari President, “we have completed the renovation of the entire Car Production Area that began in the late 1990s, and has involved the investment of over 200 million euro. Next year we will be going one step further when we begin work on the new facility for the Ferrari Formula One team.”

RENNtech SLR

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren may be on its way out, but that doesn't mean there can't be more horsepower extracted from the supercar. The original had 617hp. Then came the SLR 722, which despite its name had 650 horses underhood. The 722's American importer, RENNtech, addressed the perception gap with its first package, boosting output to an eponymous 722hp. Never satisfied to leave well enough alone, RENNtech has now released its second package for the SLR 722 that further boosts power to 740 thanks to a revised ECU and a freer-flowing exhaust system.
While RENNtech's PKG1 went for a solid $12,900 (come on, what's a lousy $13k on the price of such a supercar?), the new PKG2 costs a heftier $26,990, plus an extra $7,800 for the optional Signature 10-spoke 20-inch rims, which can be had in chrome, satin-ceramic or "sniper gray" finishes. The SLR won't be leaving without a final swan song.

Jacob the Jeweler is going away.

Jacob the Jeweler (aka Jacob Arabov), who's been name checked in songs by everyone from Jay Z to Kanye, has been sentenced to 2.5 years in the slammer, according to reports.
Jacob pleaded guilty last fall to falsifying records and lying to Feds who were investigating a Detroit drug ring. Authorities accused him (and others) of conspiring to launder about $270 million in drug profits!
The judge who sentenced Jacob also ordered him to pay a $50,000 fine and to make a $2 million forfeiture payment to the government.
Jacob said, "I feel ashamed that I broke the laws of this country, a country that has been so good for me. I will carry this shame for the rest of my life."
Shame! Shame! Shame!
His jail sentence is scheduled to start January 15, 2009.

say it ain't so

Formula One is big business, and as such only big money is associated with the sport. But there is such a thing as exorbitant amounts of money. The FIA, governing body of the F1, has raised its pricing for superlicences the drivers need in order to compete.
Last year FIA demanded Euro 1,500 plus Euro 250 per point scored from last years competition but this year the prices have been bumped up to Euro 10,000 base fee plus Euro 2,000 per point! Defending champion Kimi Raikkonen has received a bill for Euro 230,000 (110 points) rather than Euro 29,000.
Surely Kimi could easily afford this crazy amount of money, but not everybody is so fortunate to have multi-million Euro deals. Take Robert Kubica for instance, he has received a bill for Euro 88,000 or one tenth of his yearly income.
Result is that the drivers are contemplating a strike, or so goes the rumor, at the sold-out Silverstone UK Grand Prix! The 80,000racing fans will surely be extremely disappointed and its questionable whether F1 could survive yet another big blow after the Mosley affair and the tire fiasco a few years back at Indy.
British F1fanatic points out that the Grand Prix Drivers Association has gone through a strike before, namely at the 1982 South African GP at Kyalami. Where Burnie Ecclestone remarked: “We have been watching Ferraris for fifty years. Ferrari has had God knows how many drivers. They come and go but still all that people want to see is a Ferrari. They cannot see the bleeding driver anyway! Really, I ask you, what asset are they?”
